Ponta de São Lourenço — Madeira's Wild Eastern Peninsula
Ponta de São Lourenço is Madeira's easternmost peninsula — a narrow volcanic ridge stretching into the Atlantic with sheer 200 m cliffs on both sides. The PR8 trail runs 8 km return along the spine of the peninsula to the Ponta do Furado viewpoint, passing dramatic rock formations, endemic plants and sea caves. It is widely regarded as one of Portugal's best coastal walks.

Practical Information
Ponta de São Lourenço is 32 km from Funchal (35 minutes by car). Public bus 113 runs from Funchal to Caniçal, 5 minutes from the trailhead. The trail is exposed to wind and sun — bring at least 2 litres of water, sun protection and solid shoes. Start before 9 AM in summer to avoid crowds and heat.
